Roger is a photographer who enjoys creating images to surprise the viewer.
Several years ago, had a stroke. He was initially left with severe aphasia ("the acquired lack of language"). He lost virtually all of his language - was unable to speak, read or write. Over the next few years, his aphasia effectas has reduced significantly, and has improved from 'severe' to 'mild', but not fully recovered and probably will be never so.
But one of the things that he did through his rehabilitation journey, was to re-awaken his photography interest - he figured that if he couldn’t reliably communicate with language, then he would make pictures.
“One of my challenges was to set out to produce ‘interesting’ images – things that are different, and are more like impressionist paintings, or abstract images. I enjoy creating 'art photographs', aiming to be on the walls.”
He add been a successful business and IT management Consultant. He was a passion for the land - has owned goat, sheep and dairy farms in the past and currently has a chestnut and olive orchard. Often he can usually find him on the South Kaipara Head, and lives part-time in Auckland’s North Shore, New Zealand.
He has won awards and has been sold in New Zealand, Australia, and England in both domestic and commercial settings. His annual Calendar has become a short run stunning example of his work.
